OVERVIEW

Reports to: Deputy Chief of Strategy & External Affairs Officer

Salary: Salary range:  $45,000 - $50,000 and full Benefits

Location: Chicago, IL

Responsible for supporting Acero Schools' marketing and communications efforts, the Communications Specialist collaborates on cross-functional marketing and communications activities to raise brand awareness, achieve enrollment targets and maximize parent engagement. The Communication Specialist will also serve as the primary controller for Acero's social media.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the development and distribution of communication and marketing materials that support student recruitment, enrollment, and family engagement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with school leaders, Culture Team members, and cross-functional departments to coordinate student recruitment, enrollment, and community outreach efforts. 
  • Create, edit, and schedule content for social media platforms, including written copy, graphics, and other digital communications.  
  • Undertake individual tasks of marketing and social media plans.
  • Coordinate with internal staff and external vendors to plan and execute promotional campaigns, recruitment events, and community engagement activities. 
  • Believe in our ability to create the future we envision.
  • Perform other communications, parent engagement, student recruitment, administrative, and special project duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related field.
  • One to three years of demonstrated expertise in related work.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including Canva, Google Suite, and project management applications.
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented.
  • Strong communication, writing and copyediting skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States (required).

COMPENSATION SUMMARY:

 

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

 

The nature of the work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files, and an ability to communicate and exchange information. Physical demands include the ability to stand, bend, reach high and low, stoop, and walk around the classroom 60% of the day. In addition, candidates must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20 lbs. for short periods of time, and walk up and down stairs several times a day.


Majority of work is performed in a general office environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at organization-sponsored events and meetings.
