Acero Schools English Language Program Teachers (ELPT) realize that success is built on relationships - with students, families and colleagues and on the acquisition of academic language in both English and Spanish by all English Learners. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure high academic standards, set goals and do what it takes to achieve them. 
  • Differentiate curriculum, instruction, and individualized learning plans to meet individual student needs.
  • Prepare and upload all documents for the CPS OLCE EL program reviews.
  • Work with administration to support all teachers of ELs. Supports may include but are not limited to:
  • Assisting with the development and creation of standard-based unit/lesson plans.
  • Review and collaborate in the selection of Multi-Tiered System Supports (MTSS).
  • Collaborate with Bilingual/ESL teachers in aligning instruction with CCSS and WIDA ELD.
  • Collaborate with Special Education teams for full alignment of goals and EL standards.
  • Support family engagement and parent engagement efforts at the school to be fully inclusive of parents/guardians of ELs. 
  • Provide guidance and support to teachers and school leadership regarding program implementation.
  • Coordinate the Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC).
  • Review and update school based Corrective Action Plans.
  • Serve as a Liaison between Acero School Network and CPS. 
  • Complete Placement Recommendation Templates and monitor through completion. 
  • Coordinate the EL Screener and ACCESS.
  • Monitor progress of all Active, Refusals, Exit and Transition of EL students on a quarterly basis.
  • Ensure all parents of ELs receive annual notification of EL placement and communication. 
  • Clearly and accurately communicate with administration, colleagues, students, parents, and larger academic community to improve academic outcomes for all students.
  • Exhibit professionalism, leadership, and personal responsibility for daily work and attendance, personal appearance, student learning, and school success.
  • Demonstrate collegial behavior and make positive contributions to the school community.
  • Believe in our ability to create the future we envision. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (required).
  • Be able to demonstrate the academic progress of students under your leadership and articulate the methods used to achieve those results.
  • Knowledge of and experience with evidence-based language acquisition strategies, WIDA, CCSS, ELD, etc. 
  • Understanding of district policies and procedures for English Learners.
  • Cultural competency and ability to move comfortably in a diverse community.
  • Fluent in Spanish with the ability to instruct students in English and Spanish with speed and accuracy.
  • Possess valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or equivalent (required).
  • Possess valid Illinois K-12 Bilingual Education - Spanish (BSPA) endorsement or ESL (required).
  • Residency in Chicago is not required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States (required).

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

 

The nature of the work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files, and an ability to communicate and exchange information. Physical demands include the ability to stand, bend, reach high and low, stoop, and walk around the classroom 60% of the day. In addition, candidates must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20 lbs. for short periods of time, and walk up and down stairs several times a day.

 

Majority of work is performed in a general school environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at organization-sponsored events and meetings.
